The late Henry Moore, born in Yorkshire, England, was an important force in the English Surrealist movement. Influenced by his country’s dramatic rock formations, he became well known for his large scale abstract cast bronze and carved marble sculptures. “Large Arch” is one of his most important U.S. commissions. It serves as a focal point for the plaza in front of the Bartholomew County Library. Moore was honored with the International Prize for Sculpture at Venice Biennale and the British Order of Merit.
